Cyborg vs. Rousey bout still needs to happen

A few years ago, there was no bigger fight for women’s MMA than a clash between former UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey and Invicta featherweight champion Cris “Cyborg” Justino. The main hurdle at the time, however, was that Cyborg was not a UFC fighter.

Today, that has changed. Cyborg has already fought once in the UFC, mauling Leslie Smith to a first round KO, and is scheduled for an Octagon return against Lina Lansberg in a few short weeks. Unfortunately, Rousey is now nowhere to be seen. After losing her bantamweight crown to Holly Holm almost a year ago, the former champion has dropped off the map entirely, casting doubt on the possibility of a long-awaited showdown with Cyborg.

Cyborg, however, has not forgotten about this prospective super fight. In a recent interview with MMAJunkie.com, the Brazilian bomber explained that she feels she has unfinished business with her American rival.

“I believe there’s a ‘novela’ [Brazilian soap opera] between Ronda and me that we need to finish,” she told MMAJunkie. “I think that’s a fight everyone wants to watch.”
One way or another, Cyborgs believe a fight with Rousey needs to happen so that they can both enjoy their eventual retirements without regret.
