Thanks to the efforts of the second-year MLS franchise Atlanta United, Atlanta has a championship since 1995.
ATLANTA, GA. - Atlanta United became the champion of the MLS Cup 2018 by defeating the Portland Timbers 2-0 in the 23rd edition of the MLS CUP. Atlanta became champions in front of an MLS Cup-record crowd of 73,019 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.
The championship brought a bit of relief to the city who is best known for one of the biggest choke-jobs in sports history. The 34-year-old defender Captain Michael Parkhurst
won his first MLS Cup and broke his championship losing streak that crossed throughout four cup finals and dated back 13 years.
Congratulations Atlanta United!
