Warriors just keep on setting the pace

Through six days, the league is scoring 202.9 points per game this season, the highest mark in more than 20 years (since 1993-94).

Are teams shooting better? Nope. Shooting more threes? A little bit, but that hasn’t made much of a difference. Getting to the free throw line more often or committing fewer turnovers? No and no.

The difference is pace. The league is averaging 101.3 possessions (per team) per 48 minutes this season, up from 96.3 last year.

Few of the league’s general managers picked the Golden State Warriors to repeat, many of their teams are trying to emulate the champs. The Warriors taught us that you can be successful on both ends of the floor and win a championship while leading the league in pace, and the new numbers tell us that shooting percentages dip dramatically after the first six seconds of the shot clock.
